I'm gonna have the engine out while I rebuild the ribcase. So today I recalled the rear main seal kit that I have seen.

Has anyone installed one?

What do you have to do?

Any machining or mods?

Is there more than one kit?

Who is the preferred vendor?
 
I have one (of sorts) on my rivergate back plate, and I do not think that it works too well.
 
Its a very expensive band-aid to hide excessive crankcase pressure and/or a worn out scroll "seal". Re-establishing the proper clearance for the scroll seal and proper crankcase ventilation will dry out the rear leak. Check out this link to Colin Dodd's web page for one way to do this. I did it with Paul Asgeirsson's kit using JB Weld.

This looks even better as the brass will last longer than the JB Weld.
