1275 Cylinder Head Bypass Nipple

Anyone ever tried to replace the bypass nipple in the head below the thermostat. Mine is materially corroded. Not sure how to get it out, was thinking about an easy-out. Of course I threw out an old head that I was using as a doorstop that probably had a useable one it it.
 
Good luck removing it, I'm the only person I know, who has ever removed one in tack, it took alot of heat, a dowl to stick in the ID so it didn't deform, vice grips, a can of PB Blaster and about three days of trying, and a truckload of patience. They are threaded in. Are they avaialble as replacements, I guess you could alway come up with some sort of barbed fitting. Bottom line is, you don't need them, we block them off on the race cars, and block the bypass on the pump as well, you can even buy replacment water pump where they are plugged.
 
Thanks Hap, they are available at VB. Have to try and get it out "because its there". Will consider blocking it off regardless.
 
I've had some luck in removing them, too. The last one I did, came right out, with not much heat being needed. The one before that was a real bear! I think I used heat and an internal pipe wrench on it.

I haven't had luck removing them... but an acquaintance in OZ has done several using an approach similar to what Hap does. My friend makes his own replacement nipples out of brass. I'm not sure that's any better than stock but that's what he says he does.
