I'm getting ready for a long drive in my TR6 starting tomorrow night (Thursday) and I'd like to have my phone always at the ready (plus it will double as my radio). Are there any special considerations when installing a 12V outlet? The one I picked up from Radio Shack has an inline fuse. I will be passing through Las Vegas on Friday where the predicted high temperature is supposed to hit 106. Any of you AZ guys have any advice/warnings for such temps?
 
Pretty straight-forward and as you describe. You'll want to think about whether you want the power switched (w/ignition) or always on. Does your ignition switch has an accessory position? If so, that would seem like one useful connection.

I did mine on a little plywood panel hidden under the dash -- had to use wood as it was a negative ground set-up in a positive ground car:

As for heat -- on long hot drives I carry a spray bottle of water (one with an adjustable nozzle) set to spray a fine mist. Makes a crude swamp cooler but really helps. I usually have the top up for shade (with back window unzipped and front vent open).

Assuming John that the cooling system is happy and you have the shroud on it?
