New York troops in Corbie, France, celebrate.

The Peace was signed at Versailles, and the war ended, in June of 1919. But as Marshall Foch said, "This is not peace. It is an armistice for twenty years."

Have a pipe that I inherited from a cousin of my paternal grandmother. Carved into the bowl, "I.E Meyers Verdun 11.11.11 18 81st Div". Tried to get a photo of it but the basic equipment I have couldn't really resolve the dark carving on the dark bowl well enough to really read.

Hi Mike. That is a treasure indeed. For a photo, try shining a light toward the side of the carving. Might make it more visible.

Thanks.
