Great Pumpkin - R.I.P

Almost got it apart before Jerri called me in for dinner....

+head looks good just carboned up (had a Cooper brass head gasket)
+no carbon buildup around top of cylinders
+cam looks great - no wear or distortion (but I'm gonna replace it anyway)
+lifters are great except for a couple that have little marks on them
+honing in cylinders still looks good
+#1 rod bearings look great as does the crank journal
+#2 rod bearing is beginning to show some brass but crank journal looks great

Keeping my fingers crossed as the other 2 pistons & crank come out tomorrow....machine shop Monday

Oh, pistons are MOWOG!

So, all pistons out - crank out...everything looks absolutely GREAT!!!

To machine shop Monday....

hehehehe.....Doc, its a 10CC-DA-H A-series engine...that's a 1098 with the larger 2" main & rod journals!

And I thought it was a rebuild of 10cc - the '70s soft rock group ("I'm Not In Love"). /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I wuz thinkin' what Patrick posted... a Rossi or somesuch. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

Actually, in 10CC 1098, the rod journal diameters are the same as the 948 and the 1275, the only A-series engine that ever had a larger rod journal diameter is the A+ series block, mostly used in non US markets, mostly in FWD applications. The 10CC did get bigger mains than the early
948 and early 1098 engines, that main journal size was then carried on to 1275s. The big thing about the 1098 is stroke when compared to the 948, the 948 only has 3.00" stroke, the 1098 has the 3.300", and the 1275 stroke is 3.200". So while the 1098 gained very little of it deplacement gain for it bore size (only .060" larger than the 948), it did make up for it with .300" more stroke. The extra stroke made for a much better torque range than the 948 engine, more meat in the middle so speak. The 100cc with the larger mains were only made for 1-2 years, so that's make them a pretty rare A-series RWD engine.

I apologize for my ignorance, Hap...but I'm actually learning to like working on the little car....I might even tackle my '74 RWA Midget soon - all it needs is for me to rebuild the fuel pump as when I drive it I have to keep a hammer nearby!

Tony, don't worry about 10CC stuff, not many people know much about them, it's a very samll audience /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

that is now at the machine shop for cleaning & mic-ing to see how far from factory specs it is...
