1098/1275 Crankshaft Pulley - Damper

I'm getting my 1098 engine ready to put back in my '66 Sprite and noticed the crank pulley is pretty dinged up. I heard somewhere that using the harmonic damper/pulley from the 1275 motor was a good idea. Holly cow, Moss wants $219 for the pulley!!! Any suggestions?

Check the classifieds. There is an ad with lots of Spridget stuff (it is an older ad but pays to ask) and maybe they have one they can sell a more reasonable price. You can also post as parts wanted too and see if any response or you may get lucky and someone will see this posting and have an extra for sale! Any salvage yards in your area with BMC stuff?

One thing to keep in mind is all the OEM 1275 harmonic blancer have 30+ year old rubber in them, I seldomly find one I feel good enough about using on one of my customer engine. Remeber for $219.00 you're getting a new unit, also Dampner Dud or something like, a guy in CA rebuilds these things for like $80-$100.

Thanks Hap, I Googled up the Damper Dude in CA and he does have one listed for 1275 engines. However, he doesn't have any in stock as the cores he gets are often badly beaten up and not rebuildable. I'll try finding one on ebay or a junk yard and have him rebuild it. His price is $100 plus $40 core charge, so it's a good savings over buying new.
