I know you guys like to see variations on the original...

That grille seems to be a bit high to me:

It amazes me...... you have a beautifully designed car....... you copy it, or try to anyway.......... and you f**k it up - big time! And no one noticed before they gave it the final paint? Who are these morons?

Yup, they missed it... ready, shoot, aim :sorrow:

Here are a few to compare it too:

+1

But hey, give the guy a brake, at least he is straight about it being a replica
Not like the usual "M" discussions ...

Park it on my driveway any day ;-)

Just my 2 cents, Hans

There are actually quite a lot of 100S replicas around. My friend has one that he built himself. Bill Rawles has just completed one and JME Healeys have built a couple. Several owners of real 100S also have their own replicas. All the body parts and interiors are readily available.

The one in question is incredible. How is it possible that such an obvious mistake was not spotted by anyone.

It could be just the angle of the photograph... It also has the 100/4 sidelights (slightly bigger than the genuine 100S..) oh and its LHD which sort of give things away.. in the photo from HealyRick the genuine original doesn't have the 100S badge.. so is it a genuine ??

Its not the angle of the photo. You can see that the top of the grille is level with or even slightly higher than the top of the headlights which is wrong by about 4 inches or so. Its not even marginal. Given the overall cost of the replica it wouldn't cost that much to put it right.

It is hard to tell from the photo but perhaps they used the 100's original front shroud which is more sloped and than that of an S which is more vertical. If so and they merely dropped the "S" grill into the 100's opening that would explain why it is so high and looks so wrong.

In any case having/spending a lot of money is not a guarantee of good taste or design.

I have read previously that what Michael describes (a re-worked 100 shroud) has been used in "several" replica/tribute 100Ss...

I've seen this car on F******k and I commented that the grille was too high and the steering wheel was on the wrong side. Most viewers there seemed to like it. That is why the BCF is the best!
Michael, I think it is the standard 100 that has the more vertical front and the S that has more curvature. That's partly why this looks so wrong.

Pan--

I think we may be using different terminology to describe the same thing but in any case it looks like the grille and the shroud are a definite mismatch.
