Founded in April of 1918, the Royal Air Force celebrates its centenary. And according to some (including me!), without the RAF, there would be no England today.

Yep - that's the one they use for most contemporary "veteran pilot" flights. It's a 1946 modification.

They were making these mugs at the Emma Bridgewater factory when I toured there back in December.

I spent most of the tour talking to Graham, the plant manager, who was taking a few others along with me and Peg. He had proposed the mug and was quite proud of it. I was not able to buy one as they were not yet for sale at that time.
 
At just under $30.00 each, plus shipping, I doubt I'd be anxious to order a pair. But they are kinda neat.

Besides, my coffee wouldn't know th' difference twixt one of those and my free TechData mug. :wink-new:
 
This interests me. A thread on the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force, and a veteran pilot from the Battle of Britain - and the comments are on the Spit's seating arrangement, and souvenir mugs?

Can you imagine a veteran pilot from the Battle of Britain! Hard to imagine and he looks good for his age. He and his RAF comrades saved England from total destruction, I have no doubt! The Spitfire, flown by great pilots, proved it's worth against the the most evil modern day group in world history. To me they deserve nothing but total respect. PJ

Having flown gliders out of North Weald I have a perspective of the RAF pilots sitting in arm chairs drinking tea waiting for the scramble call. Moments of relaxation between moments of elation or terror.
Without them we would be speaking German in England.

Tom, or anyone else interested, if you have Amazon Prime, you can watch a bunch of videos for free. I just watched a documentary type video on the Hawker Hurricane fighter, quite nice. There are other aircraft videos to watch also, plus movies. Just thought I'd mention that. PJ
