100-Six Clutch Recommendations

I need to get a new clutch for my 100-6. Could someone recommend a brand?

I didn't have good luck with my MGB clutch which was a Borg and Beck. The throwout bearing plate just spun on the pressure plate and made all kinds of noise and I had to disassemble it to fix it. I don't really want to do that with the Healey.

I've seen two brands: AP and Borg and Beck, are they made in China? Which is the good brand and where is the best place to buy one?

I still have the old clutch. I was thinking on using the old pressure plate because that seems to be in good order, and just buy a clutch plate and throwout bearing. What do you think? I'm afraid to buy a new kit and have it be junk and have to disassemble the car again.

I'd suggest that you talk to the businesses that sell parts and work on Healeys daily - British Car Specialists in California, Healey Surgeons in Maryland, Autofarm in Canada, etc. There are also shops that will reline clutches, resurface flywheels ...

The couple I have put in have been AP. Both have been fine. The kits include all pieces required: Clutch plate, throwout bearings, clips, pressure plate and grease.

Borg / Beck are well known and since U are on the East coast I suggest you talk to Healey Surgeons in MD.

I use a Tilton 7.5" twin plate unit which might be a little too much for a street driver.....

I can't recommend a brand, but I would definitely recommend that you re-drill your flywheel and use a BJ8 diaphram clutch. And, while you're at it, lighten your flywheel by 5 or 6 pounds.
