100 Engine Lifting Device

s-l500.jpghttps://www.ebay.com/itm/1000-LB-LOAD-LEVELER-FOR-ENGINE-CRANE-TOOLS-/350484968875
I have used one tool similar to this to lift my engine in and out - very useful if you are alone or have one partner only (as me)
I have used the TWO chains, and L brachets on valve cover bolts (cover removed) and naylon ribbon as security-
I have lift only the engine my crane was small too nearest the limit for engine+gearbox weight
NOTE inclination crank handle must be on the rear of the tool for easy operations- NO personal interest on e bayer used for illustration only

Hello, Guys , I am getting ready to put my 100/6 engine in with the tranny attached , except i do not have wheels on the car nor do i have the schroud on it either. this is a very clean nut and bolt resto from bottom up and a new engine and trans rebuild. The question I have is I have moved the engine around on the 2 valve cover bolts without an issue but i am a little scared of using those same bolts to drop in the engine and tranny in one piece . I like the picture of the balancer with the chains attached to the front engine plate instead of the valve cover bolts - checking for some reasurance before I make the move . thanks

Like you, I used the valve cover bolts to move the engine around, but when it came to reinstalling it along with the tranny, I went with a leveler similar to the one Andrea shows in his post. I used four chains on the engine as per the attached photo. The engine and tranny are heavy (somewhere around 800 pounds I think), and you have to tilt the whole thing quite a bit to get it in. It just seemed like too much stress on the valve cover bolts to me. If your shroud is off, you won't have to tilt it quite as much, but I think it's safer with more chains.IMG_3119.jpgIMG_3149.jpg

In the end I removed the gear box and used two lifting strops one wrapped around the flywheel and the other around the front damper/pulley. Brought the two together at a position slightly biased to the front of the engine and put a shackle through the loops and slapped the hoist on - easy.

I did my BT7 with one chain on the valve cover bolts, shroud off. Same way out and back in. Scariest minutes off my life, but no problems. Just glad that part is over....
