OK, I'm getting ready to replace the seats in my 100-6 Longbridge built BN4. Does anybody know of any reason why I shouldn't just go to Moss for the frame pieces? Is there any different little thing about the Longbridge that I don't know pertaining to the seats? (there has been for everything else!) I'm replacing everything above the tracks. Thanks
 
Replaced my BN1 frames with repros, "dont who the supplier was", after getting them, compared them to the original worn out "read rusted" frames was of the opinion that the original were made of sterner stuff!
 
I'm sure there will be a decrease in quality, regardless of who I buy them from. I guess my real concern is "will they fit" and, since I'm working on a Longbridge BN4, "what don't I know now that I'll wish I knew after I buy them". I've had this car since 1982, and I'm still finding out things about it that are just a little bit different than the "norm" for a 100-6.
 
Hi LBH, based upon my experience with aftermarket parts I would try and locate a good used set. E-bay has seats on there quite frequently.Further, as was my case it may be possible to simply weld in new metal and restore the ones you have.Saved me a bit of cash.--Fwiw--Keoke
 
I think that may be the way to go, although my current frames are in pretty bad shape. I guess I'll watch on E-Bay for a better set to start from. It seems that nobody can answer my other concern, the Longbridge factor. I don't think they are any different, but then there was a time when I didn't think the curtains, or the hood frame, or the sills or etc. etc. were any different either. Thanks for answering!
 
The seats on the Longbridge BN4 are virtually the same as was found on the Hundred. Deep metal seat pan, metal seat back, seat cushion trimmed onto a wood base. Seat back piping starts at bottom of the rear side of the seat and continues around the edge of the ears, up the edge of the seat back allowing the leather to crown the edge, with piping remaining behind, vinyl on the back surface of the seat back and piping anchored with tacks into inseide rear wood. Seat back bottom rear edge is finished with a hidem strip to hide the row of tacks. Suggest a professional trim out your seats for satisfactory results. I use Heritage for all my customers seat builds.

As Rich says the Longbridge seats are like the 100s. They are more complicated than the later type and have wooden seat bases, hidem strips etc. But if you aiming to restore your car the way it was then they are the ones to install.
 
I,ve kept my old frames for reference, they are the originals as far as I can ascertain, can supply pix if you require, pm me
 
I probably will use Heritage for the upholstery. I got the hood from them. What I'm not sure of is where to buy the seat pan, frame and wooden base. I think mine might be beyond repair, and I'm wondering if there is any reason to pick one over the other in the usual suspects list of suppliers - Moss, Victoria, etc for these parts.
 
I saw the pictures on the web site - what a great help! And I do want to do it correctly, hidem strips, wood base, and so on. You guys are more help than I've found in all of the years of fooling around with this car. This is like having an illustrated manual on how to do everything that also lets me ask all the questions on things that I'm clueless about!

I've still got my old frames, but thanks. The more I look at them, the more that I'm wondering if maybe I shouldn't just try to restore them.
 
Longbridgehealey, YES... Restore them... I may be anal about this but, in my humble opinion, anything but the originals will detract from the timeless and simple beauty of your original interior... I guess it's the ol' OC in me...Ron
 
Speaking of seats.... I am in need of a pair for my '58 BN4.. anyone have a pair of frames and seat inserts sitting around looking for a new home??? Thanks, Ron
 
If you have Heritage build up your early style Longbridge seats, and you need any of the parts, seat bucks, pans, backs, etc. just have Heritage supply them. That way they can do the complete job and there will be no reasons as to why something didn't fit, etc. One stop shopping has a lot of advantages!<grin>
