Any easy method of relocating a calibrated timing mark from the bottom of the engine to someplace easier to read while setting the timing? Advance Distributor Co. has a stick on degree strip for the MGs, but that will not work on the Healey as there is no flat spot on the pulley. I do not have any assistance so while using the timing light under the car I cannot turn the distributor myself.

100/4 timing mark relocation

I just made a pointer out of some stiff wire (not quite coat hanger size) and fastened it under a bolt head that was handy to where I wanted it so it would point at the pulley. I lined up the marks from below and just made a new scale using some typing correction fluid. You might actually have to buy some fluid, as if you are like me, every bottle in the house is so old it has long since dried out. Measure the marks and make a new scale on the pulley. Then you can shoot it from above and move the distributor while you watch. There was a thread on here a while back about this I think. What were they thinking when they msde it impossible to see?
Jon, thanks for the tip, and I will try that one first. My long term goal was to get an accurate degree scale tape or something to actually measure the advance degrees. I guess I could invest in a better timing light with the advance tracking ability, but like the white out bottle being dry, my timing light is not up to date.
