100-4 Smiths heater clips

Hello all,

Does anyone know of a US source for those three clips that hold the heater assembly together? Tried Moss, Victoria and British Car Specialists to no avail.

Cape International lists them but...overseas shipping for three stupid little clips?

Thanks in advance,
Walt

Can't help with the clips, but something you should check if you are working on the heater. Make sure the feed and return pipes to the heater are central in the grommets as they go through the bulkhead.

In an effort to reduce vibration on my 100-4 I found the tubes had rubbed thru the grommets and one tube had almost worn thru - close to water water everywhere!

Wow really? Could I bother you for an item number? Searched for smiths, smiths heater, heater clips, etc and struck out. I've kept a pretty close eye on all the items just listed under "austin healey" since I stated the resto and never saw anything in there either.

Cool, thanks TH! He lists these (3+1/4" as well as the 4+1/2" 100-6 and 3000 size). The problem is that I don't have any of the originals to compare against. The core itself is 4" thick, the front cover is about 1/8" thick and I have no way to measure the rear plate but guess it's another 1/8" to 1/4" thick. Therefore I think I would need a clip that is around 4" in the relaxed position, which falls right in between the two sizes he offers.

Just a little background here, I've owned this car for about 18 years and it never had a heater, just the three-pronged mounting plate bolted to the inside if the fire-wall but no core, motor or cover plate. This car used to be my Dad's. Anyway, a little over a month ago he calls me and says "when I was getting down the Christmas decorations from the attic I found a box of Healey parts, should I just throw them out or do you want them?". Uh yeah dad, just pitch 'em ;-) So anyway, in the box was the heater core and cover plate in decent condition but no motor, fan or clips. I decided I really didn't need the heater functional but would like to restore the cover plate, paint the core, get some clips and put it in there as a non-functional cosmetic piece.

TH, reponse from those people on eBay:

<span style="font-weight: bold">Hi, I have the heater box clips that are for the 4 1/2 ins deep heater box that is fitted in the 100/6 and 3000cc up to BJ8
The heater you have is the round type heater in the 100/4 so not the same clip

Oh well...

Following up on a few of my old posts for people's information...

Cape International did not have these when I first contacted them. They were out of stock so they had a new batch made up, it took about 4 weeks so I received them some time ago. They look and fit great!

Yup, thanks!
