good morning and thanks for any help:im just about to send the grill surround for chrome but are the inner slats of the grill chromed or painted and what kind of paint color if painted. Ive looked at pictures and it hard to tell.

Slats are plated but not a high polish. My chrome guy did a "brush finish" and it looks great.

Just needed a little steel wool on mine after chroming the surround.. Be CAREFULL with your chromer, this is a delicate exoensive piece!

I'm not trying to hi-jack this thread, but while we're speaking of 100-4 grills, I've been looking for a straight, undented, and complete unit for over 6 months.

It is OK if it needs plating, but it needs to be straight. Of course an 8 or 9 would be OK too.

If you know of one, please let me know.

My dad and I did some research before we did our BN2's grill. The original finish is a special type of finish (I can't recall the exact name but think it might be 'butler chrome' or similar). It's a satiny, not smooth chrome finish. Anyway, we asked our chromer and he knew the term (butler?) and was able to produce pretty good results.

Yes that's correct for the slats (the satin type chrome) but I think the surround should be normal shiny chrome.
