100/4 front suspension/Mt Washington Hill

I have a question regarding king pin bushing replacement on a 100/4 suspension. This winter my plan is to rebuild the front suspension entirely. I was going to purchase the Moss king pin kits and noticed there is an expensive reamer available - Is this a requirement? Can a good machine shop setup the bushes and pin?

It seems like the front suspension is pretty straight forward but the $1100 reamer caught my attention. Could there be a trick to this suspension? Please let me know.

I was able to run the Healey-Chevy at the Mt.Washington Hillclimb last weekend. 5 runs up the 5-6 mile coarse. It really was a good time.

(#74, silver and red stripe - no, it doesn't look like a 100/4)

If you did a modest search on the topic, you'll see that I've posted pictures here several times of the setup I use. In fact, this thread is only eighteen (18) threads down and on this same page(!) https://www.britishcarforum.com/bcforum/ubbthreads.php/topics/161720/Kingpin_Reamer#Post161720

I purchased commonly available reamers in the two (2) required sizes and made pilots to fit the opposite end. The point being to keep the upper and lower bushes in perfect alignment. Simple enough.

So to answer your question, a good machine shop could setup your kingpins, if they wanted to.

Also, Moss has carried that reamer in their catalog for years, but has not always had it available for shipping. I had inquired about once before, and had actually talked myself into buying one, only to find out they weren't available at that time. Just as well, as it prompted me to act on my own.

Sadly, I did do a modest search using the search engine in the Healey forum using "front suspension" as my search term... Oh well.

But yes, your post did answer my question.
