Who can help me place the six rubber buffers in the trough in the front surround. Do I need six? What spacing do I use? I assume the "short" leg goes to the trough side. Any thing special about drilling for the rivets? Is there a buffer mid point of the front lip? Thanks in advance. P.S. pre-existant holes for the rivets are non-existant, so no hints from the past..

The repro buffers are a little shorter than ideal so you'll do better to lift them up as high as possible. The six cylinder cars have an issue that even with the buffers pushed up as high as you can practically drill holes in the rubber, they still don't touch the bonnet at the back. Period road tests mention the 'bonnet dancing around' which is largely due to this misalignment.
If your engine is not in you could install a small child to draw around the buffers when they are pushed up to the underside of the bonnet, otherwise maybe superglue them on temporarily to check fit?
The original rivets are available here https://www.rivetsonline.com/rivets-en/split-rivets.html which are much nicer looking than the copper things the stores are flogging. Also used for seat back tacking strips and scuttle seals.
