Wasn't this car on eBay in Florida not too long ago?

Yes late last year it was on E-bay but I was committed to buying the Vantage so no room at the inn

I have wanted to restore this one twice before, but could not get my boss to pull the trigger. I think it is a rare and fairly significant vehicle. It was the first Healey-Abbott and I believe a auto show display piece. I now have a XK120 to do instead. Sure the Jag is worth more, but not as rare.

I too have been looking at this car and wondering why it still sits unrestored. What are they worth and what kind of money would it take to restore?

From the pics the car looks fairly complete . As far as cost of restoration that's really a grey area as it all depends to what level you restore it how much you do yourself , how much you pay to be done ,and don't forget this car has a wood frame under all that alumimium (correct spelling) and who knows what condition that is in .
I did look at them a lot a while back and a simple google search will find what they are worth as a number have been sold in the UK .
Will it being #1 of 77 make it more valuable ......who knows you would think so but the market for the car will dictate that .
To be honest from a money making point of view it probably wouldn't be worth it . From a pure love of the car and nostalgia and wanting to preserve a piece of automotive history then my answer would be yes its worth every penny as its a gorgeous car but that's JMHO . :encouragement::encouragement:

Perhaps significant from a historical perspective, these early Healey creations just don't do it for me.

According to Hagerty, 1951 Healey Abbot values are:
  • Condition 1 (Condition #1 vehicles are the best in the world.) - $69,000
  • Condition 2 (#2 cars could win a local or regional show. The one word description for #2 cars is "excellent.") - $52,500
  • Condition 3 (#3 cars drive and run well, but might have some incorrect parts. "Good" is the one word description of a #3 car.) - $40,000
  • Condition 4 (#4 cars are daily drivers, with flaws visible to the naked eye. "Fair" is the one word that describes a #4 car.) - $22,500

This car doesn't meet the definition of a #4. One would have to do it for love.

Well the car didn't sell .......So lets for arguments sake say you buy the car for 25K then to make it a #1 you have to do it for 45K . Maybe if you do it all your self and do it for the love of the car and the achievement of doing it .. Its possible, but as soon as you start paying for body work engine work etc etc then your going to be in the hole in a hurry . You would need to speculate that the car will become more desirable/collectable and increase in value .
I still think its a gorgeous car ........not as nice as a Healey but its not supposed to be a Healey and Im sure in #1 or #2 or 3 condition it would be a real head turner wherever you drove it .

Are we sure it is an Abbott? Looks more like a Tickford to me. The vendor advertises it as an Austin-Healey.
It's not, it is a Healey.

Oops! Wrong again! Just checked Browning & Needham's "Healeys & Austin-Healeys". Definitely an Abbott.

Nice Jim!

OTS, DHC or (my favorite) FHC? Year, and and any special designations, like SE?

Are you participating/posting in any Jaguar forums (I'll search here in a minute...) as I love seeing your work in progress__I admire your attention to the details!

My best to LS

Its a 51 OTS. Numbers matching, fairly complete, but still needs everything. Just collecting some parts and panels right now. I haven't started restoring anything yet. Just documenting and disassembling things. Lots to do but I do love the xk's, especially the earlier ones. Once I actually start I will most likely start a log in the Jaguar forum here.

Heres what it should look like .

XLNT! I hope you'll put a notice here in the Healey section for all your devout followers__I know I'm not the only one!

Thanks

Sure. will do. Here is a couple teaser photos. It will be jade green with a similar jade green interior. you can still see the original green leather on the seats, and I have found shades of the original green behind the doors,
Jim
