Literally! I spent 2.5 hours to simply remove the spring packs, add back another leaf and reinstall. My neck is sore from trying to get the plate/u-bolt/and anchor bolts all in place.

rant over.

I'm going to get a shower and get some sleep.
 
Boy, I do know what you mean Trevor! Those U-bolt/anchor plates were such a PITA that I actually went to a machine shop and had these made! (years ago as you can see from the color of the paper I drew it up on!) Definitly eased the job, and also more robust! As you can see, I replaced the U-bolts with grade 8 steel bolts and the plate is made of steel. They were a bit pricey to have made but the agravation factor that was eliminated was well worth it and the hardware is more substantial than the originals!

You posted that before I installed the springs the first time. When I looked at your drawing, I thought it looked like a good solution, but probably not necessary. However, I think I'm going to print it out and take with me the next time I go to my dad's shop.

Last night the first side went in easy breezy, but the second fought me all the way.

Yes, I had mine out about six times to get it right, I replaced all of the hardware and got pretty proficient with it.

I got it down to around 45min. PITA
 
Tis not really a bad job as long as the bolts and nuts are not rusted.
 
hehehe...glad I listened to Jack & left mine alone except for changing bushings!
 
yes Tony and the heavy duty ones are :wall: imho

they make it tighter, also giving clearance for a monster truck jam. :jester:

Yep, I'll bring my chair and provide lots of guidance. Bring a big elec, drill and lots of good 5/8th bits. If you twist off a bolt and you prob will it is a real pain to drill em out, they are like three inchs long.

I hope they don't twist off they are new Grade 5 with anti seize. If I have to pull them again I'll probably put new bolts in. They've been torqued down 3 times now.

Mine came off with out a problem. I did soak the bolts and nuts with PB Blaster for 3 days. I'm in the process of derusting and I'll paint them with black two part urethane.

Sometimes you get lucky. When I removed mine the first time they all came out but one, and it broke where the thread met the shoulder so it only took a few minutes with the drill to get it out.
