02 sensor question

Rod,
Several people have installed them when using an A/F meter or gauge...what are your plans?

I am tuning a Weber 40 DCOE on a 1958 Sprite. I Thought this would help. If so What Meter would work with this? I can wire it for - ground if need be
thanks

You can install a permanent mount gauge or use a portable unit in the tailpipe. I'm looking at a portable unit for my lbcs.

Not sure how an 02 sensor works. I know where it goes but does it vary resistance? If so the gauge would be an amp meter type and not a Voltage gage. My car is + ground and the gauge would be wired in series to the Battery. If there are 2 terminals on the back of the gauge, I would just wire it as needed. I guess I would need a gauge that matches the sensor. Any idea why this 02 sensor is dirt cheap compared to others that cost over 200 dollars?

to do any real tuning you need a wideband O2 sensor and matching gauge.

The O2 sensor produces voltage. When it is reading the correct mixture it will read .7 volts (that is 7/10 of a volt)

My link didn't show up in my previous post, but this is the route I plan on going. I thought about installing an analog gauge, but I only need it when I'm tuning up a car. I've read a variety of posts on different forums and the in dash digital meter is too hard to read when running, but the analog works well without jumping around. A tail pipe sniffer looks like it works as well as a bung.

This would be a great way to tune but with the prices asked I guess the only sniffer I will be using is my nose! Would be slick if a club could own one.

Kurt.

I just talked to a sales person the problem with a tail pipe set up is a possible air leak in the exhaust pipe. Said it would be better to install a bung. Now the question is to go with just the test set up or gauge. eyes on the gauge may cause a problem when driving. Go Pro can be set up to watch gauge. Need to think on this

I've seen the pros and con discussed on several forums and the sniffer needs to go up far enough to keep it in the exhaust stream. If you have a muffler with a short tailpipe it could present a problem.

yes short pipe. I think I am close with the idle circuit I went down one jet size and it no longer stumble anywhere in the idle range. the color tune plug still says in it is a little rich. so I will try a F6 air corrector it has an F8 now. I think when I get that I will take it to a smog shop and see what it smells like
