I just picked up a Laycock J-Type overdrive, Model 27.115952, that was in a box of parts I bought at an auction and have not been able to find any information on it. Does anyone have the super-secret decoder ring that can tell me whether this is out of a Triumph, Volvo or something else? I'm...
I purchased this unit intending to put it in my 68 GT. I’ve since decided to go another route with a possible V6/V8 conversion. Sold as is. Local pick up in Statesville, NC 28625 preferred but may be able to help with UPS shipping. Possible partial trade for new 77-80 RB parts (i.e. interior...
Hi there. I have a 56 TR3 that my dad and I restored together in the late 80’s. I was supposed to drive it to high school but after a frame-off restoration I was in my second year of college before it was completed and he and my mom drove it all over the country with the COVTR (Central...
i just purchased an overdrive from an early mg. it does not have a shift lever. moss lists one for the od and one for the regular unit. my mg mechanic says they are interchangeable.
anyone have any direct experience with this?
No longer for sale - started the welding up the body toward keeping it.
Hi folks,
I am continuing to plug away at this project, but am also aware that it may be years before I can get it done so I am posting to see if there is interest. Price is in Canadian $ and firm at 5500 - a bargain in...
I've added an OD to my car as it is being rebuilt. As a pre-TR60000 TR3A, I know the proper original relay would be the one with screw terminals, and have seen interesting discussions about which way to mount those.
Unfortunately, not having one with the screw terminals, I'm using the later...
Nice weather is finally here and I am starting work on the TR3 again. I've been looking at aquiring a Triumph overdrive tranny (not a conversion -- or at least not now) but haven't had a lot of success. Not much currently on Ebay and the Quantum Mechanics website has never re-emerged. Any...
tr3 with a tr4 trans with od. the od pops in, but doesn't let go. even if i power off the car, the solenoid does not release. if i remove and replace the solenoid, it again pops in but not out. i have another tr4, where the od works fine. i notice on this car that there is some sort of...
Hi,
I just rebuilt the overdrive that wasn't on my car and found a OD type tranny main shaft. I just pulled the tranny and am ready to disassemble and switch main shafts. Any good instructions for swapping out the main shaft with minimal disassembly? I have rebuilt engines but never a...
Would appreciate any recommendations for good repair shops in Florida or southern Virginia for Brit car transmissions, including Laycock overdrive additions/replacements/repairs.
Regards,
Walter
I ran into a gent from the UK this week who buys parts here in the US and ships them back to the UK for sale. Mostly he buys the metal parts of MGs (doors, trunk lids, metal dashes, etc.). He ships a container full of these parts once or twice a year. He states that these parts are in high...
I bought a barely running TR4A in 1970, took it apart in 1980, and am just starting to complete it. I know enough about the engine to keep out of trouble, but the rest of it is a learning process. I find I must now learn to weld aluminum, or buy a new overdrive casing. Anybody have experience...
The overdrive on my BJ8 has always worked well. Had the console and dash replaced and while out something may have happened in some wiring got messed or loose. OD is inconsistent now.
I want to try to reach in and see if I can find some loose wire somewhere. The shop that did the dash...
I posed a ?? about bumper is another thread. But in general, if one were looking for an MGB what other features are desirable? Ex: Overdrive, or not? 4 Speed (is there a 5 speed?) Any other options or features that are considered preferred features?
