For a Lucas distributor (part number 40480E - DM2P4), I am replacing the bushing. This distributor is from a 1959 Triumph TR3.
To remove the old bushing, I need to remove the driving dog. So far, I am unable to remove the driving dog retaining pin. After applying penetrating oil, I have tried...
Question about the wire gage on these low-tensions leads. One distributor has an original low-tension lead (brown color), which is a very fine wire, and very flexible.
The aftermarket, purchased from a big California Supplier, has a much heavier wire. I wonder how important the lower resistant...
To continue from a previous post, but more description subject line... Car started fine, then just died. Got a spark tester.. no spark. Changed points, rotor arm and condenser, installed new Lucas sports coil. Even removed the distributor and cleaned it up. Still no spark. Not sure if I need to...
OK folks a true novice here.
Distributor popped out of the block as it had not been properly tightened by the previous owner I suppose. I cleaned it and replaced the points & condenser. Now I need to put it back in and lock it down. I need very simple instructions on how to do this. Pictures...
2 weeks ago I had been driving my 1974 TR6 for about 70 miles and it died out shortly after leaving a stop light, about a mile from my house. The car just died out with no warning, and was not running rough or showing any other signs. I checked the fuel and the spark and discovered the fuel was...
In an attempt to adjust my timing I found that my distributor won't budge an bit. It seems completely seized on there. I sprayed a lubricant around the base after I had loosened the body clamp bolts and pinch bolts and have let it sit overnight. I've tapped it to create some vibration and after...
Is this little bit of clockwise rotation from rest normal? I'm fitting a crane electronic ignition and I'm not sure if I should align the sensor based on where it comes to rest or by holding the cam to its farthest clockwise position.
So my spit doesn't always start. It will work fine, turn it off and 10 minutes later it wont start and 10 minutes after that it'll start again. When it's not starting there is no spark. Tried a new coil, etc... and I've narrowed it down to the ****ty electronic ignition that came with the car...
Today I pulled the distributor apart and found that the Nylon stepped washer inside the housing, at the bottom, is ruined.
I cant find such a replacement anywhere on the web.
Does anybody have any suggestions as an alternative?
I'll try to be as complete and concise as possible. BJ8 sat for about a year (prior to this was able to start just fine). Went to restart not even turning over. Found out a bad cell in battery was to blame. New Battery - cranks just fine now. But when cranking the engine doesn't even try to...
OK, long story short I've been chasing a dieseling, poor gas mileage, high idle problem for 2 years now. After having switched out the ZS 175 CDs twice and resetting everything I found out yesterday that my PCV valve was assembled improperly and took 20 seconds to fix that. Suddenly the car...
