TR6 Support for standard muffler

I'm currently installing a new exhaust system (old system was a Monza twin exhaust) and am curious as to where the front hanger strap would have secured to body/frame. I'm referring to the exhaust support at the front of the muffler (inlet to muffler). Did this strap go straight up and secure to sheet metal or to frame? There are no tell-tale holes on the front wall of the trunk well and I really can't speculate on the frame because the original is long gone, replaced by a Ratco.

I'll take a stab at this.... my '73 had a bracket welded to the rear cross tube under the trunk. There's a rubber hanger attached to support the muffler. Since I have a dual muffler setup I made a similar bracket for the opposite side and welded it to the cross tube like the factory setup.
Hope these pics help.

Thank you for the reply Elliot. I do vaguely remember that cross bar on the old frame now. That mount is accounted for on the Ratco frame. It would be another mounting point, roughly 16" further forward - used to support the front of the muffler, at the point the two pipes go into it. It would have been something very close to the front of the trunk well.

Yes, I think there is another mount further forward. I’ll see if I can get another pic tomorrow.

I did try and get some additional pics but was not successful. It would be easier if car was up on jack stands to get a better pics.
Going from memory I think there is a tab on each of the pipes coming from the exhaust header that are bolted together and then the hanger at the rear as shown in my previous pics.

Thanks for checking. Yes, I do have the ability to bolt the two pipes together with one common bolt - up near the gearbox. The shop manual, TRF, and Moss catalogs all show a hangar at the front of the muffler but no mention of where this is attached to body/frame and no indication of an attachment point on my existing body or new Ratco frame. Oh well, I'll probably end up drilling a hole in the front of the trunk well to secure the hanger strap to.

Hi Dave, I just put my 74.5 6 on wheel stands so I can push it sideways for dash top & windscreen rubber R & R. Hopefully you can see where the rubber strap from the pipe bracket goes - I never could get a clear shot. The car is very original and I duplicated the exhaust mounting about 8 years ago.

In the first picture, there is a bracket in front of the two modern 'super clamps' I added to ensure no leaks. A stout rubber strap goes from it to a hole in rear shock/differential frame crossmember . You can see the front & rear of the metal channel that makes it up in that shot. The rubber hanger strap had to bend back at an angle as you can see, but it all worked out and the muffler (original) fits very nicely. Hopefully Ratco made that bracket the same way. Jeff
