Want to Borrow: Rivet Squeezer

Old threads indicate the possibility of a "home-made" rivet squeezer that helps with the installation of the rear shroud. Anyone still have one that I could borrow? I wouldn't keep it long (less than a week) and would gladly pay for shipping both ways.

Are you talking about a Pop Rivet tool?
I have several, three manual and a pneumatic.

The original rivets are solid. One way to fake the appearance of a solid rivet is to use a pop rivet and fill in the center with body filler.
 
I've got one I'll happily loan you but I have no idea what the shipping might be from 98284.
If you have access to a lathe and welder, you may be better off making one with an old C clamp.

Not sure it applies to the solid rivets you purchased, but I had to cut the length of mine down to about 3/8ā€ to 7/16ā€ long to get them to work. They came to me about 5/8ā€ long.
 
Make sure you paint the shroud lip black after the car is painted to be concours correct. I always wondered whether it was the same guy at the factory that painted the fan guard red that moved to the rear of the car to paint the shroud lip.

I don't think the unions would let that happen. Obviously black paint and red paint are different skill sets. Need two union members to handle that, for sure.

According to the 2021 (so may not be up-to-date) Concours Guidelines: "From late BN1s, as early as cars built in 1954, and onwards, cars finished in lighter colors, particularly Healey Blue, Florida Green, Carmine Red and Ivory-White appear to have had the lip around the bottom of the rear shroud brush-painted in black."

Glad it is only light colors, not that my car is anywhere near concours.
 
Not sure it concours correct but I painted the lip seams under the fenders/doors satin black also. Just looks better I think.

While you are already on your knees you can paint your exhaust system with barbecue black unless you have one of those fancy stainless systems you like to show off.
