Driving a round town the engine runs well. This morning on the freeway, running 65, more or less, the engine started to miss - not enought fuel is my guess. I turned down the off ramp still limping - rough running, but not mis-firing, but I thought it safer to have to quit on a surface street rather than the freeway. By the time I turned the corner onto the city street, the car was running well - no problems. Returning home on the surface streets the car responded well, but as I drove a bit on the freeway, same problem. I turned off the freeway; returned home with no problem. Even highway speed for the mile of freeway driving to get home. I replaced fuel filters a few weeks ago. I used tape to connect filter and electric fuel pump. Maybe a peice of the tape hampering full delivery of the fuel?

I was going to post about the enjoyable day I had Sunday. Both Spitfires were running so very well and we were enjoying the sunshine and nice breeze as the
Spitfires cruisedon the freeway. That was then, the above is now.

Has or does car sit much? Steel fuel line may be clogged some. I have replaced several lines from tank to fuel pump. One way to check is disconnect fuel line from carbs, hand pump the fuel pump ( if you have original style pump) and see if you can pump it dry. Fuel lines varnish up from todays gas. Not a fun job to replace but not that hard.
 
The inner liner in the fuel tank of our TR6 started to deteriorate and would randomly cover the fuel outlet causing stumbling. It took months to figure this out. Had the tank restored and solved the problem. Use non-ethanol gas if you can - pure gas.com for your nearest station.
 
sorry but i don't know what car your are referring to but had similar experience that i hope may help you

i had similar in competition i chased everything on my 3a i thought it was as a result of the corner and fuel surge but no
it was faster running and fuel starvation. ok when slower running.
i changed filters- rubber pipe in engine bay - moved to an electric pump
still an issue
i fitted an elec tyre pump to the engine bay pipe work at a competition and it blew through eventually
it turned out to be a small rubber pipe connecting 2 metal pipe towards the rear on the chassis just in front of the rear wheels its a metal compression fitting No 17 here.
this video shows the issues and blow through. you can hear it clear

also check your tank breather is working either the tank pipe (no8) or the hole in the fuel cap

Did you mean connector 16 was causing the issue or was it a piece of rubber tube in place of the connector? Item 17 is the rubber grommet that stops the pipe rubbing as it passes through the frame.

As I think about it, I added an external magnet to the bottom of the gas tank. During the work I did in the boot int he last two weeks, I romoved the magnet. i wonder if that disturbed the stuff in the tank. I used tape for the joints and as far as I could see when joining the parts, no tape got stuck in the fuel lines.

yes thanks for spotting that. the connector is sometimes just a bit of old rubber pipe that degrades- had me frustrated for a couple of weeks and competitions.
