Do you remember your 1st BIG rock concert?

Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, aka Cream, 1968. A lasting image of Clapton standing in front of a two story wall of speakers!

Yes, Yes 1980 - Guess I'm a little younger than most folks here although a large chunk of what I listen to is late 60s, early 70s. This last week I seem to have been on a Jefferson Airplane binge.

We saw an "all star" show in Albuquerque a few years ago and one of the members of Iron Butterfly was in the show. Of course they did In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. I have to say, I think that is the only Iron Butterfly song that can name - but it was a great song!

Opening act for the Butterfly that night was.........Tommy James and the Shondells. Talk about a mismatch!

Even my kids (and I suppose their generation of the late 80's early 90's) seem to prefer the "old stuff" at least as much as the new.

i can't say that about my music taste back in the day. I didn't listen to "big band, early jazz or swing" that my Mom used to like.

my youngest daughter even prefers the click, pop, and scratch of 33.3 vinyl over iPods.

Not as impressive as many of you, but also a little younger, saw the Cars in 1980 or 81. I didn't do many concerts back then, but now wish I would have seen some of the great groups that were around (and in their prime) when I was younger. Would have loved to have seen the Who live, but I have enjoyed a lot of their live performances through the wonders of YouTube.

My best guess would be perhaps the rock band Rush at the Saddledome here in Calgary, 1980's... I once drove with a group of friends from Calgary to Vancouver, BC to attend a U2 concert, they'll probably never play Calgary...

These days I tend to prefer small club shows, being more into music like folk and roots music which tend to be smaller more intimate shows, or local musicians, same story as above... The big stadium shows just don't interest me...

Electric Light Orchestra ELO - Kansas City - 1971

A more recent concert that was killer was when the Stones came to Albuquerque on their Bridges tour a couple of years ago! Man, for old guys they can rock! Mick was running around the stage in a manner that would have worn out a teenager! They were great!

Not a rock show, but I recall a bunch of buddies wanting to go see Rodney Dangerfield perform on campus when I was a student and I went along. Show lasted perhaps 5 minutes as there was no security and a group of drunk frat guys were up on a balcony off stage right. They started screaming and throwing stuff on the stage and after he failed to quiet them down Rodney just said " I don't have to take this, shows over" and walked off. Can't say I blame him since nothing was done to fix the problem, but I did think there's a big difference in joking about no respect and actually receiving it.

I saw Steve Martin at Texas Tech, (Lubbock Tx) back in 74 or 75.
he was doing stand up, featuring balloon sculptures & stuff like that.
he wasn't BIG yet, But not unknown either.
It was probably the first time I'd seen a stand up comedy act.
he was hilarious!
Incredibly, he only cost a buck at the university center.

Asia, 1983 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. Chris DeBerg (before Lady in Red Fame) was the opening act. We had seats out on the lawn.

"Get 'em from the peanut man!"

Went to Simon & Garfield concert at Keil Opera House in St. Louis with girl friend in 1967, never went to another until a cople years ago with wife to a Fogarty Concert at ScottTrade Center St. Louis, do not want to go again. Never was my cup of tea.
