I think my 1st BIG rock concert was " Humble Pie" , 1972, Dallas, Tx.
at the municipal auditorium.

i was 16, went with my older brother.
i remember stuffing cigarette filters in my ears & feeling the rumble of the bass all the way down to my toes.

Blood, Sweat & Tears..... 1971 Curtis Hixon Center Tampa, FL

I "think" it was Jimi Hendrix in Denver circa 1969 (70?). Around that same time I saw 3 Dog Night.

1978 Santana Maple Leaf Gardens oh and,

1980 Frank Zappa - also the Gardens!

Rick,

that Newport Jazz fest. poster is great.
what a line up! @ a whopping $ 3.50 - $10.00 a ticket.
( notice a sponsor was the Schlitz brewing company ......that's a Phoenix beer, alright, just keeps coming back)

Eric Burdon and the Animals - New Orleans City Park Stadium, in '68, either April or May. I remember them doing the song "Sky Pilot", with a backdrop screen with images of planes flying and psychedelic images. Strange odor in the air as well. :smirk:

Grand Funk Railroad, Des Moines '70. It was very loud, my girlfriend got very high, I got nutin.

Ah the 60's. If you can remember them you weren't there. ;p

Unless you count folkies like Peter, Paul, & Mary my first and only rock event was seeing Procol Harum about 1970. I think I was the only one in the place who wasn't stoned, including the performers. I wasn't impressed.

Yep, that went with the territory.....peace&love, & don't Bogart that joint, my friend.
maybe that's what PH was getting at with "a whiter shade of pale". The lyrics didn't make much sense, but nobody seemed to notice.

At least you weren't stoned on purpose. At the Hendrix concert, even though I was not a dope head, I was probably stoned from second hand smoke.

ZZ Top, Oct. 2013.

Iron Butterfly - Illinois State Fair - 1969

We saw an "all star" show in Albuquerque a few years ago and one of the members of Iron Butterfly was in the show. Of course they did In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. I have to say, I think that is the only Iron Butterfly song that can name - but it was a great song!
