That's not patina, that's rust. One of my goals for next year is to make a racer from the valve cover and leave it as is. It'll probably be sponsored by Beverly Hills Car Club or Gullwing Motors

Go to your local Harbor Freight, you'll save the shipping charges. The block and head are rebuildable and they aren't making new ones. If someone needs one, let me know.
