I've got a copy of the service manual, but no parts catalog for my TR4a. Since I'm unfamiliar with a parts catalog having worked on an MGB and Bugeye, is this a worthwhile purchase? If so, any particular place to purchase?

Just send for a Moss Motors or Victoria British Catalog and you will be good to go. They break it down to the nut and bolt.

But unfortunately, they don't tell you what the specs are for the nuts & bolts; even when they are standard hardware items.

I use the SPC a lot, but then I also prefer to order from TRF (who uses the factory part numbers).

Used originals do show up on eBay from time to time. I picked up a somewhat tatty TR4A second edition with no covers just the other day for $20. Or TRF will sell you a new reprint for $90. No doubt there are other places, but those are the only ones I know of offhand.
 
Thanks guys! I've got the VB and Moss catalogs and I look at TRF online on occasion which is difficult at best. My game plan is a frame off resto and I'm sure I'll need something identifying all the parts and specs. I'm going to dismantle 2 cars and see what I've got in restorable parts...I know 1 engine turns, but I'm not sure about the other. I'm just piddling around with some small parts like gauges, dash, heater, lights, etc. for the time being until my Bugeye comes back from the paint shop. Once it's home the TR will probably sit until I'm finished.

Both the repair and parts manuals are valuable resources. When I completed my recent TR4 restoration I frequently referred to both.

As others have said you can buy reprints of both for your TR4A. I found originals of both on ebay, and I believe I paid less then the new reprints.

I have also bought parts from both The Roadster Factory and Moss, and don't like the fact that Moss does not use factory part numbers. When you find a part in the parts manual and order it with the same number you know you are getting exactly what you wanted.
 
TRF does offer a free reprint of the TR250 factory parts book. The body/chassis including previously mentioned nuts/bolts and fittings would be the same as a 4A. Not perfect, but I think you can still get it free.

Not sure what you need , but my Moss International catalog from 20 years ago, MGL6100 used different part numbers than US Moss. They even carried parts not available then in the US. In the back of the catalog there is a section about Hardware, studs , Nuts, Bots, etc, for general purpose, but not high strength specs.
