May have to start doing that. This is the first time it's happened.

We've seen "evidence" of them around, but so far no sightings.
 
Hey, who hasn't seen their trash or recycling rollouts treated like this sans bears.

(uh, with my luck someone here works for a sanitation department and I'm really going to hear about it)

Still looking for a source for bear meat for that all-important bear/venison chili.
 
Raccoons will do that as well. And on one early morning walk, I saw two Ring-Billed Gulls pulling on two ends of a garbage tie, open the bag and dig in. Animals will find a way.

I'd rather clean the mess than have the garage stink and full of flies. And we bag everything.

I agree about the stink and flies. And the garbage WAS bagged - double.

Not sure why, but we don't have a stink or fly problem and we keep our garbage in the garage (double bagged with white kitchen bags inside large, heavy black bags and in proper containers of course). Maybe it's the relatively low humidity but odors are not a problem, nor are flies. If garage is not an option for you, maybe you could get a small locking shed to keep the cans in?
 
I know Mickey. They're probably for commercial use.

Good one, Steve. We have friends nearby whose cat actually treed a bear. Showed me a picture captured on their cell phone.

And the two that I posted were about 80' away from our front deck; that's our cabin in the pictures. And speaking of "Ghost of the Woods", if you didn't see them, you'd never known there were there. I called our renter who was in the cabin at the time and asked if he knew they were out there. He didn't, and when he looked out the window he saw that the plastic garbage can on the front porch was turned over!
 
Mickey, Do you have a connection with the park service or animal welfare? They will, without harm to the animal, trap and move them on occasion to another less populated area. PJ
