TR4/4A Your thoughts/value of this TR4

That came out great. Looks like I have another piece to wire wheel down and paint! Need to also purchase the filler piece as my dad put in an old Motorola transistor radio WAYYYYY back when. Not sure if I want to put that in. Might be cool to have an old school radio in it though. Thank you for the pic.

I'd probably reinstall it, unless it was an ugly 70s radio. It's part of the car's history. I'm not sure if I'll put a radio in mine, maybe a Retrosound unit. No idea where I'd put the speakers, though.

The original speaker used on TR4s was in an alloy housing fitted above the passenger footwell:

There was a metal strap bracket attached to the top side that bolted through the firewall:

Not high quality sound - but then the car itself is an acoustic nightmare for enjoying music.

I'm guessing that would've been an option that would have been noted on the Heritage Cert, yes? The faceplate of the radio piece is wood, but I'd wrinkle finish it like the support piece.

If you're referring to the radio/speaker combo - it is my understanding that these were dealer-installed on U.S. market cars and thus no indication would appear on the Heritage Cert. For example, my certificate does not show a radio receiver among the 'factory fitted equipment'.

Even though they were installed by dealers, the units and fittings seemed to have been somewhat standardized as mine is similar to many others I have seen:

Ok, you'll have to pardon my self-indulgence a bit. I washed her for the first time this evening and took a few glamour shots. Pretty happy with how this car came out. I won't say I'm signing off this thread but there isn't a whole lot more that I plan to do apart from the top.

Absolutely great! YOM license plates would top it off. The "Golden State" plates were issued in 1987

Yep, I plan to get a set of yellow YOM plates. Just FYI, the sunset plates were available from '82-86 as an extra-cost option and in 1987 as the standard CA plate for a 10-month period. Then they went to the boring white plate. These are early sunset plates, probably issued in 1983/84ish based on the 2AEH sequence.

And how's this for a geek moment? In May, I spotted this Karmann Ghia with a plate that was only one digit different. Yeah, I'm kind of a license plate nerd.

Interesting. I'll have to see what sunset plates I have when I get home. Didn't know those little facts. Part of me wants to stay with them, but I know the black plates are period correct (but the yellow is more reflective than original).

Car looks great and I hope I get to run across you at some point. Your threads gave me the "push" to really get mine going.

And you know...that chicken coop is bigger than some apartments in SF. Maybe that will be the next thing in the Bay Area instead of tents or cargo containers being rented out. And yes, the latter is happening.

You and/or fpstude should come out to the Fair Oaks Brew Pub some Monday night. Scotty (TR250 guy) and I are usually there on Mondays (except the next couple of Mondays - he's off on a western-US/Canada bicycle trip). He should be back late August and it'd be great to get another TR there!

I'll join you and Scotty for a Monday night beer in September. Look for my white TR3A!

I'll be gone some this month, but September looks good. Just don't kick dirt on our poor old unrestored 4A!

OK, Saturday story time. It was a friend's birthday so my wife and I meet him and his wife for dinner. He drives his Unimog and we go in the TR4 since it's such a lovely night. We get a table by the window which is great since I can see the cars. After about 30 minutes a gaggle of 40-something ladies approach the car. I can see that one in particular is quite smitten with the TR4. Neat, I think. Next she starts leaning all over the car. Not nearly so neat but still not enough for me to get upset. Next she plants her ass on top of the driver's door as if it were a bench. Now I'm getting upset. Finally she starts swinging her leg upward like she's trying to swing it over the door and into the car Dukes of Hazzard style. She finally plants her ass on the door again and falls over backward into the car. That was enough for me. I had to go out and read her the riot act. She was obviously intoxicated but that's no excuse. She and her companions sheepishly got into their car and left.

And this was literally the very first time I've driven it since finishing it. Ugh. Anyway, here's a pic of the Unimog and TR4 before the drunken festivities.

Mink, unfortunately that is part of it with our cars. I came out of a hot dog bar to find some guy had put his little girl, with an ice cream cone, back in the rumble seat of the Roadster. "She had never seen one", well get her out of there. Lots of times I'll catch someone opening the bonnet, (hood), "Oh, just wanted to see what kind of engine was in it".
Wonder what they would thing if I went over and sat in there Lexus or what ever. I would jack the car up and show them anything they heart desires, but ask!
