any thoughts on Windows 10?

Apparently I have been offered a free upgrade (from Windows 7)

any thoughts?

I hear it's do or die. Would like to know as well (as I'm currently using 8.1 so I figure the change won't be as dramatic as from 7).

Sheep. They're herding you like sheep.
I heard there was a way to activate 10 without registering through MS...they want to track everything you do, host your data in their Moses Lake Cloud.
I watched what they did with 8, rest assured they are perfecting it with 10.

Let me tell you how bad this is...how badly they want you in their camp..shackled.
One of my pastimes was google satellite, old roads, old rail lines.

I could do it for hours.

About the time MS announced support for XP was going away, it changed. 5-maybe 10 minutes, and the computer would lock up.
Firefox, but it loaded Temporary Internet Files into IE.

I emptied, and it took up to 5 minutes to clear.

So, just to get around other issues, I loaded User Agent Switcher. Into FF.

Same computer, same XP Pro, same browser...but I told it to tell the queries I was 7 and FF 25.

Problem GONE.

They're all in cahoots, all they want to do is spy on everything you do, and XP did not allow them the freedom to do so.

Guess what I'll use until they bury Billy?

A Windows10 review:

There are many more reviews out there to read.

I'll install Win10 on my upstairs desktop (which I hardly use) just to see what's ahead. I'll keep Win7 on my heavily-used laptop for the time being.

Sad to say, with most folks using 'puters for games, video, music, chat, messaging - which I don't do - I'm not overly concerned about "cloud" and the new GUI. Websites and forums are already "cloud" in a way; we put data on them but don't really control how it's used.

Good grief - remember the Olden Days when we used 'puters for actual WORK? (WordStar, Lotus 1-2-3, dBase II) Boy do I feel old.

Maybe it's just about getting old, but I'm very tired of these "ground up" rebuilds. New features are nice, but I really dislike the change in the look and feel.
Win95 was a big jump from 3.11, but I got over it. Win8 over XP was a jump I'll never get used to (and continue to use the old interface/look).

I remember when the "cloud" was a box or more full of punch cards in a rack or desk. Still have a small unusable deck at home to show people what it was like...

Gads. Haven't heard the name hollerith in decades.

Emptying out punch-card machines (of the punches) made for the best confetti I've EVER seen. I think I still have a few numbers in a scarf I used at a football game (now 40+ years later)!

I worked for Big Blue during the punched card era & we never called them Hollerith cards. They were usually "5081's", "punched cards", or "80 column cards" in later years after the 96 column card was introduced. "5081" referred to the part number used for the standard card with the 12 row/80 column printed numbers. Although people knew the term "Hollerith", using that term usually meant the card had round holes.

I swear the attention span of this site is getting shorter and shor, O look a butterfly. :jester:

I have another tower coming shortly....my kind of price....and I have dug out my Windoze 95 discs. Guess what happens when the tower gets here?

J-P - take a look at my first post.

I still have an old 50 pound HP lap top with 3.1 in it! Hasn't been used in years, probably won't even turn on. I got W-95 when it came out on 3.5 floppies, 13 of them I think. I thought it was great! PJ

As I mentioned ... take a look at my first post.

Oh - wait! Let's start complaining about the price of sliding windows!
