How do S/S bumpers compared to chrome bumpers? how do they compare, what is the quality like, what are the suppliers or how many are there? Thanks Saltiga

To my knowledge there is only one and i do not have their communication handy. However, they were looking for a loan of Healey bumpers to fabricate their replacement. My thought here was I hope the sample they get is correct. Because so much liberty has been taken by platers over the years that a correctly shaped set of original bumpers may hard to find.

However,I will check and see if I still have their notice.

Here you GO!.

I have NOT seen the Healey bumpers, but I did buy SS for my old mini. They do look like stainless, not as shiny as chrome. I think they are fine on a mini, but not shiny enough for a Healey.

Agree. My old Alfa '67 GTV had SS bumpers. They were well polished, but some guys got them chromed as the SS never quite did it.

Thanks for your info re ss bumpers, I have contacted Bumperwold in the Netherlands, and am not quite sure they actually exist? I have a problem with their payment method, eg, direct debit to their account, they will not accept pay pal .. I looked them up on Google earth and the address given is a private house, I am a little sussy , failing a visit I think I will look else where.. Many thanks Saltiga

Thank you for this information, Their site is very good, I have contacted Bumper world back for final quote on delivery to Australia. Again thanks for the confirmation. Saltiga

The bumper bars were ordered from bumper world in the Netherlands, A prompt and efficient service from them, l have un crated them and are very happy with the quality, comparing them with the chrome I can tell little difference. I have not fitted them as yet as I am waiting for spacers and overrider supports to arrive. All looks good and no more rust, nor rechomeing, Saltiga

Glad to hear that.
Check the curvature-Shape-of the rear bumper if you can?

I have finally fitted the bumpers, not a problem, they follow the cars curvature very well , the tuck around at the ends looks good, all in all I am very pleased with the product, they look so neat that it may deter me from driving it for fear of damage, ---just kidding. saltiga

saltiga?

DO they shine like polished chrome ones ??

Finally have fitted the bumpers, they look ok.I have checked the curvature of the rear bumper, although it looks ok it does not follow the car rear shape, there is a lack of curve of about 10mm(3/8") I have not looked at another healey to compare but I will, The way these cars were made and if there was not another car to check against, it does not look out of place. Saltiga

I have finally fitted the S/S bumpers . They look ok ,to Keoke's question as to how they fit to the rear of the car, is that although they look ok it does not follow the rear curvature all that well, there is 10mm (3/8") lack of curve in the bumper to follow the body shape, I must compare this with another Healey to see if there is much discrepancy, by itself they are quite acceptable for me

The s/s does not shine as well as chrome, there is also a slight colour difference if a chrome piece is held next to the s/s. Due to there not being much chrome at the rear they look ok, in the front with much more chrome it looks ok too, I think the distance apart and the break up with paint makes it more difficult to detect the colour and the lustre variant . The only real benefit is no rust coming thru the chrome, Every aftermarket I have bought I have had to re-chrome because of rust To top it off I asked my wife to look and see if she could notice any difference at the front bumper and grill, after a while Kay said "should there be?" yes there is a difference between bumper and grille, well if there is ,I would not loose any sleep over it.
