So I'm in San Diego on business and on my off time I went into a Fry's Electronics super store to buy a car charger for my iPhone as I'd left mine at home. This place is like a giant candy store for geeks! I'm proud of myself because I managed to escape with only buying the charger I went in to get in the first place. Oh the will power that took!

Frys the Home Depot of geeks when I stop at either one it would be quicker and cheaper to throw a hundred dollar bill at the door and keep going.

Nah - Mrs. Bas said you'd never see ~forty-one~ if you spent another nickel!

I've never even heard of a Fry's, but if it were in my neck of the woods, my budget would be in *big* trouble.

I've built a few computers with parts from Fry's. About the last electronics store left in L.A. county as hard as that is to believe.

No Fry's here on the right side and about all the "consumer electronics" outfits have shut down or are about to. Tiger Direct shut their brick & mortar places, Radio Shack is clearing out all their inventory. Frustrating when I need some odd bit as simple as a 3" case fan for a client, should be able to get it without waiting a day or two.

When I was in High School I was into CB Radio and Radio Shack was a daily hangout.

Lafayette Electronics was the place to go when I was a kid.... any component was available!

I've been to Fry's in San Diego 3 times, and never escaped for under $300. Once I went in for an iPod (remember those?) case. The other times I just went in just to "look around". Way too much temptation.... Geek porn.

So you can appreciate my awesome demonstration of willpower! Ok, ok, I have a confession to make. While it is true that I did not buy anything at that store, I did see a very nice Camera backpack that tempted me greatly! I went back to look at it 3 times while I was in the store. The force was strong with this one! But I resisted! However, later, back at the hotel, I looked up the same bag on Amazon and found it for $40 less than the Fry's price. Oh Lordy, I couldn't resist - I ordered the backpack from Amazon!

I'd forgotten Lafayette! Them and Allied.

Th' ol' gray room's a bit overstuffed, I guess.
