When will it stop...

Insurance companies should deny payouts. Driving is not a right so they could demand cell phones to look at history. Police should be able to do same.
ACLU. We have to show photo ID for all sorts of stuff....but illegals don't to vote. Handicapped....they cannot ask. We have a card in the wallet that shows we are legal...in addition to placard/plate/whatever. But due to ACLU lawsuits or threats thereof, they start restricting handicapped parking privileges because of the idiots that abuse the system that the cops can't ask for proof.
Don't get me started on placards..."Remove before driving" printed right on it. How many morons you see driving with vision restricted with that big placard hanging from the mirror?

It seems that drivers get into their cars and think they are impervious to all driving threats. Actual driving their vehicle is last in line preceded by texting, eating, morning ritual, etc. I'll never understand why driving isn't considered a main focus and while drivers take an air of 'all about me.' In one of my cars I too have a hands free built in system and don't mind getting a call but I never place a call. Quite often I just answer and say I am driving and when I stop I'll call back. If the party calling is offended, so be it.

Were were in traffic a couple of years ago...moron female driver in the middle lane, 22 car lengths in front of her, everybody going around her...as I went around, she was reading a hard back book. Had it propped on the steering wheel.

It won't stop, instead of training people to be conscientious drivers we come up with more and more technology to insulate people from the road. Our society needs cars with collision warnings, cars that can stop themselves, and even cars that can drive themselves because as a society we do not value the concept of responsibility. Everything is a right, nothing is a privilege any more, everyone else is responsible, not ourselves. This is the society we now live in and it won't stop. We like to call it progress.

If there is any doubt about texting while driving, I recently read a book "A Deadly Wandering", https://www.amazon.com/Deadly-Wandering-Tragedy-Redemption-Attention-ebook/dp/B00HU5J20W/ref=mt_kindle?_encoding=UTF8&me=. They can read it on their Kindle.

this as a very good read and should be required reading in drivers-ed classes.

i was surprised to see a Volvo ad recently promoting one of their new SUV's (of course :rolleye:smile: as "the most connected car on the road"! this from Volvo of all people.

drive safely!

Amen to that... And not just cars, even pedestrians who are too plugged in to notice have been run over by trains or jaywalk in front of traffic, without even noticing... Even where I work, which is a recycling sort line, we are told not to take our smart phones into the plant while working, lots of people do anyway, they are just too addicted to them, and I do think it's an addiction... I can go a full day at work or at play hardly even looking at my phone...

Last fall while on a trip I was in a dead spot with zero reception for about a day, kind of middle of the bush country, I hardly even noticed...

I don't even answer my phone while I'm driving. When I can find a save place to get off the road I check it.
