CoffeTalkJoe: Stayed in Athens overnight. Seems Alabama can't take snow. Had to pull in to your Holiday Inn Express as I almost got hit a few times. Made for nice drive thru. Nice snow though packs good.

Smart! (But you did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) I never really understood what the big deal with paralysed drivers in southern climes when snow comes (recognizing that snow removal equipment is an issue) A friend pointed out that the roads are arched to cope with heavy rain, making winter driving very slippery - and cars more likely to slide off.

Be safe!

Driving Rover LR4, no problems at all. Only gliche was turning into Holiday Inn was the curb under snow, hit and slid enough to bark the ABS. Staying until 9A as there is a tractor trailer blocking bridge south, will wait til cleared, no hurries here. Anybody going South it is worse to the East.

When I was first in the Air Force was stationed in Biloxi Miss for Tech School when they had the first snow in ages there. The locals were all over the road, sliding into telephone poles, ditches, etc. It was a sight to behold. The problem is simple - lack of experience. Many people native to the south simply are not used to driving in snow/ice and it becomes apparent when an unusual snow storm hits.

Here's what we woke up to this morning - another 5" fell last night.

I really love snow! But only when it's in someone else's yard!! :highly_amused: PJ

Mickey - my eyes aren't what they used to be, but the owner of that building might want to pull snow down off the roof. Looks like you've got really heavy wet snow there - and it's *heavy*!

think ... ice dams and/or roof collapse ... not pretty. Here's what we use in the Northland:

I always thought it was not have snow enough in the south. But with the TV reports that show all the car wrecks up north and they see snow more than us down south. I think it more just stupped drivers everywhere.

I remember the big snow in Charleston SC in oh 1973?
Flew home from leave on the Worst Coast....called a taxi...going to North Charleston or Hanahan.....got on I-26...and could not get off. The moron road crews used graders and bulldozers to pile the snow off the surface streets onto the on and off ramps. Had to go all the way into downtown to get off, back up Dorchester Road. What a trip.

It was a wet snow, and it's going away pretty quickly. His roof has cleared considerably since then. Thankfully, the roof on our new house is a steep pitch and we shouldn't have as big an issue.

We have about 3-4 inches this morning. Very cold and dry so it's pretty light and fluffy.
