My wife has a Toshiba NB 205 mini lap top and she went to turn it on this morning and got a Black screen. There is no indication of any activity, no curser, no Toshiba logo, nothing, totally dead! The hard drive is running but no action. I can't get any screen to allow me to do anything. The hard drive activity light shows no indication the drive is working. I took the drive out, plugged it in to my external HD box and ran a virus scan and it repaired any faults it found, put it back in the computer and no difference. It was working perfectly the other day. I know some of you guys are up on this stuff, so maybe you might have a clue to a fix. Any clues? PJ
 
Run the correct video cable from the laptop into another monitor (display). If there's still no video even on the other monitor, the laptop's graphics card is probably dead. Replace graphics card. You may need to use a special laptop key combination move the video output to the external monitor.

If there *is* video on the other monitor, then - after your heart settles down, have the laptop display replaced.

I have a self powered monitor on my desktop, do I just undo it's cable and plug it in to the laptop? Never had to do this before. PJ

Oh yeah, where's the graphics card?
 
Is it plugged into the wall? My Trashiba won't come up if the batteries are below a certain point and it's not plugged into the wall outlet.

Yes it is plugged in.
Now another question, seeing how I just might buy her a new one. It seems like there saying a HP she likes has a 32 GB eMMC hard drive! Only 32Gig?? What does eMMC mean? PJ

Thanks guys for the update. I want a regular HD that's replaceable if it goes bad and the one their offering doesn't cut it. PJ
 
How old is the laptop? It could be possible the CMOS battery is dead. Can you even get into the BIOS when you power up? If you can, what date does it show?
 
Greg, The computer is 4 or 5 years old. I was thinking about the cmos battery but it has to be hid in a good place as I can't find it without taking the case completely apart. It's not in the usual places. Didn't want to do that if not necessary. I'm going to plug it into a separate monitor I have and see what happens. Have to be this evening as I'm leaving now to go pick up my newly chromed parts. Thanks for your input, much appreciated. :encouragement: PJ
