I know XKE and project in the same sentence can be a recipe for a heard bank account, but I have a chance to pick up a 73 wire wheel four-speed car at who it seems to me to be a reasonable price.

it comes with a wrecked v12 donor XKE that's been rolled, the body is not salvageable but the engine is believed to be good. To me that means assume it's a core. So assuming that engine is just a core and has the automatic transmission and rear differential they came with it, is there any ballpark of what that drivetrain is a core would be worth if I threw it up on eBay?

V12 engines don't bring much, not saying there's not anyone wanting one but not like the 3.8 or 4.2. My guess is you would lucky to get $500 for it and auto trans. If you are going to build the rdster of I would keep the the engine until i knew for sure the rdster engine was good. Expensive to work on. Your going to get more for the small parts off of coupe.

I am scared when you say "seems to be a reasonable price"!!! That is all over the board.. FREE might not even be a reasonable price if a full restoration is in order.. Tread lightly!!!

Sadly, I have to agree. The issue is: It can cost just as much to restore a Series 3 as it costs to restore a Series 1, but much harder to stay above water on the total cost.

Series 3's are great cars but as major restoration candidates I think they can present problems.
 
Just curious, what was reasonable?
