Another Restoration Thread - Advice Welcome [and Needed]

I picked up some ProForm direct to metal primer. That should work over the several primers already on the frame/monocoque.

Thinking ahead to adding a color coat to the frame/monocoque, before turning the car into a roller. Since the car was originally red, I am thinking of going with red again. It seems that some people don't like the red with that orange tinge used by Healey in 1957, but I don't mind it. And it seems that it usually is a good idea to go with the original color. On the other hand, I do prefer the Healey silver-blue color.

There likely is no right or wrong when it comes to going with the original color or changing the color. But I'm wondering whether changing the color affects the value of the car, when it comes to reselling it - not that I ever sell anything. Thoughts?

Also, can anyone help with info about the paint codes for the red used in 1957 and how to duplicate that color today? Since the car is an early '57, this color likely was called Reno Red as opposed to Colorado Red used later in 1957. Another question: are Reno Red and Colorado Red the same color, or did the mix change?

Obvious Reno and Colorado are different, for my car I have find a good Coloradi red (and a lot of Healey colors)on PPG ROVER section

Thanks for helping clarify that; I did not know for sure whether the colors were different or whether AH just changed the name of the color. After searching various older threads on this topic, it seems that I'm not the only one who has wondered how to duplicate the original reds used on these cars.

The car in question here is an early 1957, presumably built at Longbridge. It seems that the color change from Reno Red to Colorado Red took place in December of 1957, so this car might have come in one color or the other. Here's hoping that the heritage letter, when it arrives, will state the name of the original color. From what others have said, Reno Red had less of an orange tint than did Colorado Red - although Colorado Red became more "red" and less "orange" over the years. Please correct me if that does not sound right.

NOTE somewhere in your car you can find the original colors, my car (1957 Longbridge car sell in 1958 in USA)have the original paint under the dash cover, Old English White
I have prefered the more red Colorado viewing the oldest painted cars Colorado red - the paint under sun action, turned to orange
date of change from Reno to Colorado is uncertain as some others question on AH
