From a wedding for the youngest niece and her mate, in St. Augustine. Rented an Elantra for the trip, four-door coupe, accommodated the 80-something in-laws quite well in the rear seats. Had good mileage (32 at Interstate speeds), seems torque is the way the engineers went to overcome inertia. Four-wheel disc brakes, good. Steering, responsive and with a nice tight turning radius (great for the back streets and narrow alleys in St. Augustine!). Only criticism is the unexpected amount of road/tire noise, seems they skimped on sound deadening. Over all an acceptable jellybean, nondescript vehicle with all the gizmoid tech additions except GPS.
The wedding was in the St. Augustine Cathedral Basilica, very old cathedral! Beautiful venue but the interior is undergoing a facelift just now and it had some scaffolding inside an alcove and the balcony in the rear. That did not detract from the event, though. Ceremony was bearably brief. And the nieces are both stunning, the younger one could have had a career modeling without doubt. She turned it down. We like her new hubby, he's an engineer and is apparently absolutely dedicated to her... he better be. His new F.I.L. is a stocky, powerful Ukranian, one brother is a S.W.A.T. cop, another is Fire/Rescue EMT.
We were put up in a tourist trap of epic proportion, a sprawling beachside collection of buildings: Hammock Beach Resort. As we arrived in the Elantra, they had NO idea they were admitting the very riff-raff they evidently attempt to keep out! No less than three gated "checkpoints" to get through to reach the waterfront buildings. Had a fine time. If anyone has the means and would want to visit the Atlantic side of Florida, a weekend at that place would not be the worst way to burn some time and money.
