First my driveway (sorry....no pictures).
I'm finishing up my Spridget for next weekend at Watkins Glen (I had done a trans swap), when an unfamiliar red MGB pulls in the driveway.
I am covered from head to toe with grease and grime.....some first impression!
Anyway, the owner, Tim, introduces himself and says he always sees me and my MGs in the driveway so he's been wanting to stop by. Nice fellow. He has just joined the local MG club so he knows some of the same guys I know (although I am actually not a member of that club). His red car is a '72 and he's bought it just this year. So far he put 2000 miles on it with no issues but wonders if I know an MG mechanic? This is always a tough question because I don't go to anyone so it's tough to recommend. He tells me about a new noise in his car and I determine that he needs a left front wheel bearing pretty bad. I suggest he get it fixed ASAP.
Formerly he's owned a Miata but no other sports cars. He says he likes driving the MGB for "therapy" (don't we all *get* that!).
My wife pulls up in her car as we are chatting and as she gets out, I say: "Hi dear! Look! I've bought another MG! How do you like it?"
Luckily, I am married to the world's most agreeable person and she actually *gets* the joke.
Anyway, Tim and I exchange business cards and I promise to see if I can find a local, recommended MG mechanic. I will also tell him about this place.
I don't live on a real busy street but we get light traffic and this isn't the first time I've had a "sports car driveway visitor". Not long ago, a guy pulled in in an early 911 and wanted to know if I knew anyone who wanted to buy a very nice MG-TD? It was his father-in-law's. I suggested here plus some other places but I think he was hoping to get about twice what the car was worth.
Also, a slightly frenetic lady pulled in some time ago and said she saw me working on cars in the driveway. She told me her husband is very bored and really needs a hobby and would I e-mail him? (he apparently had an interest in cars). I did send him a note but no response. Honestly, I think she was well-meaning, but it was sort of weird. I'm imagining her husband is like "poor Richard" in "Keeping Up Appearances". :friendly_wink:
OK, so here's someone else's driveway I see near New Brunswick, NJ all the time. Looks like a Spitfire, an Alpine and two MGs (?). Plus the new-ish Landi.
No other info...I just shot a few snaps while driving by:
