2016 Miata

Light and more powerful. The Euro version gets the 1.5 liter.....USA gets 2.0 liter.

I love the 2000 NB Miata I bought new (now with 110,00 trouble free miles). But the 2016 looks great.

Last week, my cousin in the UK got a great deal on a new, "left over"2015 with the folding metal top...there are great deals on the '15 Miatas.
 
Are you sure that the 2016 is out ? Shouldn't that be 2015 as the newest model ? I love my '94 NA.
 
Different strokes - does nothing for me. Seems to be trying very hard to be a Beemer.
 
This is the 2016 model, Gary -- it's not out yet, just been unveiled. Expected in production sometime next year.

I like it. Always been a Miata fan, just never been in a position where adding one to the fleet would work out. Maybe someday...
 
I'm still a fan of the original Miata. I think these were the closest in concept to the LBCs that were the "inspiration" for the car. The 2016 is a nice looking car, but seems to have lost the original's LBC styling cues.

I always thought the Miata to be the "LBC for Dummies" That's really not an insult. It's for the people who want the LBC experience, but don't have the knowledge, patience or time to deal with the idiosyncrasies of an LBC (or who can't drive stick). Still, for the serious enthusiast, there is a lot that can be done to tweak these cars. I have a buddy who has tweaked various Miatas in all sorts of ways, from turbocharging, to track cars, to "tricked out" street machines.

We had a 2001 Miata for several years. I thought of it as the LBC experience with reliability! Every bit as much fun to drive with the top down as my Spitfire.

I agree with that thought, and will add that part of the appeal of LBCs to me is memories of the time when my LBC was my "LBC for Dummies" when I first drove Sprites in high school and college I didn't really want to work on them (Although I wasn't averse to it, but I needed to get to work or school, or the party that night, I worked on them because they broke, I was broke and needed to be fixed or maintained as cheaply as possible) so much as just drive and enjoy an open top responsive roadster, enjoy the cool spring and fall and evening air, and have a cool car to drive around, being as young and carefree as possible. Sometimes I think the Miata would be more in tune with that memory or dream than the current stuff I am always fiddling with, but nowadays they are to work on and tinker with as much as drive and enjoy (although I still do plenty of that) probably just as well as the wife probably wouldn't be too happy if I just used the car to cruise for hot chicks in the park.....
 
I got tired of waiting for the ever-rumored 4th-gen Miata with the idea that I'd return to the fold (I drove a 2nd-gen for 7 years), then gave up and ordered a Boxster, which showed up finally two weeks ago. Depending on the reality meeting the expectations (curb weight, etc.) I think I could have been rather happy with the Miata.
 
Been thinking about this and I think I have my wife pretty interested in one for next summer.
She needs to pass on the Accord coupe to the next young un.
I was playing with "Build a Mazda" on their site for 2015's.
The 2016 not yet able to, and was surprised to see basically no options available on them.
I started with a retractile hardtop and the choice then was trans and then 3 colors then that was it.
Really no options
Are they really fully equipped??

Only real question, can my 6' frame fit OK??
 
The rumor of Mazda copying an Elan still has me giggling. About to ~update~ the Elan and go for some autocross comparisons... All it takes is Jay Leno's reserves. :jester:
