Cleaning out a pile in the back of the shop, this appeared under a ton of old parts! Looks pretty bad, but I think it's the first time it's seen the light in 30 years! Maybe after the TF is done I'll rebuild it just for the fun of it. She was a screamer in her day! The 97s are gone and some other bits, but there could be a bunch of stuff still buried. The car was sold many years ago. PJ

That looks like it was a fancy one with those alum. heads and trick manifolds. Neat!

We have a fair number of vintage racers with pre-war cars that run those.

This is Peter McManus' "Ardent Alligator" powered by an old Ford Flattie. I've raced against it many times.

Actual 97's I got rid of decades ago. PITA to keep from leaking.
I've got a LOT of the later flatty carbs, even some with no advance ports.
Good thing yours is Ford and not Frog. The Frog 60's show up at swap meets, cheap....but nothing fits them as they were all re-sized when the tooling was sold.

Now, let's see....TF...bonnet side panels....V8-60......hmmm........I saw a prewar MG (I think) in 1971 in Groton Connecticut with a 60. You can do it.......think positive...
 
LOL, NO, she's not going in the TF! If it goes back in something, it'll be pretty close to what it came out of. Pictures of my car are burried worse than the engine was and have no idea where their at. This is not my old car, but a close copy of what it looked like. Hand pump and brake the same. Oh my, memories. :rolleyes2:

A lot of folks don't know that New Jersey was at one time a top promoter in oval track racing and had tracks all over the state. A lot closed prior to WWII and never came back. Some hung on to the late 60s and I guess only a couple are still inbusiness today. I ran Old Bridge, Englishtown, New Egypt and Arneys Mount, plus a host of others. Shame most of them are gone now. I went with my dad with his cars back in the late 40s, 50s and early 60s to a lot of the tracks that are in this list, but went out years ago. Went to Yellow Jacket Speedway in Philly a couple times when I was real little. I've loved racing all my life. When I was in high school, I'd be out in the shop with dad until mom would come out and chew dad out for keeping me out there! She would drag me back in the house to do my school work. Thing was, it wasn't dads fault, I loved being there. He would just grin and agree with mom.
This is the first time I can remember talking about those times in a very long time. I think I better quit, shut up and get back to work on the TF. Sorry for bending your ears. PJ
