Yep! The other funny ones are when they start the bids above what you can buy the parts for new. I assume they are counting on buyer ignorance?? You really have to know what you are looking for and what it's worth on eBay.
 
Yea, but there is a minority out there that insist on only period original parts, no repros or OEM later production. Had a guy once tell me he couldn't finish his car as he couldn't find ORIGINAL early 1960 weatherstripping and refused to use identical modern manufactured stuff.

I'm not completely OC about it, but more and more I'm becoming one of that minority. I know there are lots and lots of really GOOD bits out there, but there's also a lot of...uh...not so good repro stuff. I admit to taking advantage of good deals on NOS when I can afford to!
 
Some parts are worth holding out for NOS. Rubber parts that are over 40 years old are not one of those I hold out for. Still...many of the Ebay parts are not NOS, but rather repros for more than the big three are selling the same repros.

I think that depends mostly on how/where they were stored. I've recently picked up some NOS "Metalastik" suspension bushings that are as nice if not nicer than some much newer repro bushings. Same with (dare I even say this?) Girling hydraulic rebuild kits. As always, YMMV, etc., etc.! ;)

I've wondered about whether old hydraulic rebuild kits would still be any good as I'm sure I have parts from 20 years ago that I bought to restore the second TR4A 20 years ago. Same for old NOS Armstrong shocks that I picked up from car show vendors 25 years ago.

I won't go so far as to suggest that everyone do this, but I've yet to have a problem in using old stock Girling kits and cylinders. On the other hand, I have, since at least the 1970s, had my share of problems with aftermarket rebuild kits new or old. There was cr*p then just as there is cr*p now. ;) At worst, I'll know pretty quickly after initial installation whether the NOS bits were up to the task! And that's more than I can say about at least one aftermarket cylinder kit I got way back when. Despite appearing to be a new kit, the seals were so hard that they split as I was fitting them. :madder:
