TR4/4A motor mounts

Hi,
I have been trying to change front motor mounts on tr4a. I jacked it up with a block under the oil pan. It raises up almost high enough to make the swap and then it comes up off the jack stands. I loosened the rear motor mount but no change. Can I lower the crossmember at the rear of the trans to get the front up enough to get front mounts out. Help please. grant
 
First -- when jacking the engine you will want to keep an eye on the throttle linkage where it crosses above the back of the engine. Many (including my TR3A) have a bent shaft there because some PO did not pay close attention.

Second -- I have only done motor mounts on the 3A & the 4 -- but usually found I had the easiest job of it when I raised first one side of the engine, then the other. IOW, raise one side of the engine, do that mount, then raise the other and do that mount. As you have found, it is difficult to raise the entire engine high enough to do both at once.
 
Exactly how I did it. Can be a frustrating job. I shortened the studs on the mount a little, they are quite a bit longer than they have to be, at least on the ones I had. Make sure the nut goes on easy after cutting.
 
Like those other guys I rocked the engine from side to side and did one at a time,
 
I had to rock mine side to side also. It is a pain in the neck job, and I don't think there is an easy way. Good luck!
