Despite the obvious "time warp" discrepancy of having 1960s cars ... (and the fact that WW2 didn't end with an armistice) the photos are really interesting. I'm betting it's a wrecking yard abandoned about 50 years ago. And not cars abandoned by USA servicemen, who wouldn't exactly have been leaving hundreds of cars behind in a hurry, when returning to the USA in the 1960s.

I just Googled the opening sentence in the first link, and found 217 recent posts of the same article. I like the Jalopnik guy's comment about seeing the link all over his social media accounts. What? It's on the internet and isnt' true??
