Tiny houses

I see at least one story a week on google or yahoo about people living in tool shed sized dwellings. This has been going on for quite some time. No reason to beat this to death.... One could almost assume it's an attempt at conditioning it's occurring so much. Then again, it wouldn't be the first time...

Anyone else noticing this? It's amazing what you see when you don't pay attention.

On the items and news segments I've seen, the owner of the tiny home always seems to live somewhere else. The tiny home is in their backyard for guests or kids, or at a beach property, or up in the mountains.

So I supposed it's "saving" resources in the sense that it's smaller - but not in the sense that it's really needed.

I've always chuckled at the McMansions - four car garage, no front or back yard, six bedrooms, six baths, monster living room. All needing furniture, not even mentioning the utility bills for heating/cooling. As I read on a sign over 40 years ago: prosperity will kill us.

Just my two cents.

Mostly younger folks doing it full time is what I'm seeing. I've seen those tumbleweed houses before. I'm wondering now if this whole tiny house story thing is paid advertisement. I'm with y'all on the really big houses but ours is too small. I don't see how a couple that has any hobbies can live on a car trailer. That being said, I could live by myself in my studio trailer but not with anyone else unless I could keep her under the sofa.

Why build a mini house when you can just buy an Airstream not to mention I bought a 40' freight trailer with a lift gate for what they paid for those utility trailers.

We lived in our motor home for 9 months while the new house was being built! Amazing how it shrinks a little every month! Boy was I happy the day we moved into the house! :applause:. We have two small lap dogs and a cat! Another month and I would be would have been heading for a rubber room! :highly_amused:. PJ

The local paper just did a piece about a young couple that built a tiny home for $10,000. They built it on a landscape trailer so it wouldn't be subject to zoning laws. They sited it behind one of their parents' houses so didn't have to pay rent. No running water so they used the parents' bathroom. Electricity was provided by running a cord from the parents' house. Hauled in 7 gallons of water a week to use for drinking and cooking and had a chemical toilet they had to empty. As one commenter said, "Why didn't they just buy a used RV and park it in the backyard, it would have been much more comfortable?"

For some folks, it's important to be "cool".

Built by an old neighbor of mine and delivered to his daughter in the San Juan Islands in WA

Better yet, why didn't they just carry their carp down the hall to their old room???

Basement, easement, what's the difference? Living with your parents is living with your parents....

I could live in a small house, the one I have isn't that big, but I do need a workshop for the cars and other hobby activities. Books besides the cars are a passion and I refuse to go to all electronic for my reading material. Just couldn't do without the touch and smell of paper, and the fact it doesn't need a battery..

Not to mention some books are only good for starting a fire or bathroom clean ups. Try that with a kindle. :highly_amused:

If I lived in a tiny house it'd look something like this;

Hey - it's Mickey's new house! on the way to eastern Tennessee - to be set by his new garage!

Billy, it'd only be injun territory after I moved in. According to the internet (which is never wrong), that is the famous shed of Burt Munro.

Duh! yes I am, I didn't even make the connection.
