Trying to figure the right way to install grill surround and grill on the bonnet on a 1967 BJ8.
Do you put both the grill surround and grill together on top of bonnet or sandwich the grill surround on top and below the bonnet put the grill. Any photos would be appreciated.
Thanks
David.

I have a MK II with the same bonnet grill as your car. The two pieces should be carefully fitted before paint or you'l chip the paint ( esp. if you pick repro parts and haven't trial fitted them). The grill bottom edge hooks over the small bottom lip of the bonnet and swings up from underneath. The top cover studs with the nuts and washers draw the pieces together and sandwich the metal .

Don't pull the nuts to firm or you will end up with a dent in the upper part that looks awefull

British Car Specialist sell shim material that will help prevent dimples in the chrome caused by over tightening the fasteners.

Yep !!
However, originally small paper washers were stacked and used to prevent this. I used small rubber grommets to secure mine and prevent dimpleing
