Yep - got my coffee and chicory and the last of our king cake right here!

THROW ME SUMTHIN', MISTER!

So that's why they call it Fat Tuesday!

Should have gone out for breakfast
From NOW ON!!!!
Pancakes on Fat Tuesday!!

Today is Fasnacht Day down here; similar sweet treats.
H&R Block called don and they want their logo back.

Senior moment!

What are those things, a moon pie with an infection? Count me out.

I think the guy sitting next to me at the free clinic had that....

Now I'm hungry...... We had King Cake last night, but it was just from the grocery store. Wasn't nuttin like the real thing we had shipped to us at work last year by a customer in New Orleans!
Those things in your post look pretty tasty. I'm not familiar with them either, but I think I want to be.

Ben - when paczki are made right, they are *great*! Imagine a nutmeg flavored "cake" donut with raspberry filling, fried, then sprinkled with powdered sugar. Awesomely excellent, especially with strong chicory coffee.

Originally brought to New England by Polish immigrants in the late 19th century, another food supposedly created to use up all the things not allowed during Lent. For some reason I've never been "into" Kings Cake; seems too sweet to my ancient teeth.

Tom (not observing Lent, so enjoying them today too :encouragement:)

Gawd... ya can see all th' calories crawlin' all over them things!

Looks like beignets that partied with the wrong hooker, the white stuff must be penicillin.....

I get the lent thing but I still don't understand what they have to do with Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras, as in New Orleans? No. As in Shrove (or Fat) Tuesday? Yes.
