Hi, When I separated the yoke flange from the driving flange. I noticed 1/2 teaspoon of oil was in that space between the two parts. I do not think those parts have ever been apart and there was no exterior leaking. Is this excessive? Do I need to replace the inner axel shaft oil seal? Just a british oil leak. Grant

I'd like to understand the question better. Are you saying you disconnected the driveshaft from the differential, and there was oil in that little cup depression between the two?

That oil is probably from leakage between the splined shaft and the flange, the oil seal seals the outside of the flange. So a new seal won't solve it. I think is it normal, and the mating of the two flanges tends to keep that oil contained. If you do have the flange off, you can use a little sealer between the flange and the splines, but it wasn't done originally.

I'll elaborate on my NO now that I have some time. I think you mean the axle shafts on the IRS Differential. The shaft assembly can be removed from the IRS housing easily, however removing the flange from the shaft is almost impossible without damaging something. It's not a splined joint but rather a tapered shaft with a key much like the rear hub. If you are only seeing a small amount of oil consider yourself fortunate and leave things alone that don't need fixed.

Grant, send me your flanges,I have the tools to break them apart, just cost shipping

Emailed Phil, he responded right away, sent him both hubs and half shafts for complete rebuild. I got them out of the tr (very easy) and shipped them last monday. The mail arrived today (monday) two boxes. All done and look very good, does not get any better than that. Thank you for the pushing me along, and getting me in contact with Phil. I have learned alot reading this forum. Thank you Grant
