Question re: Internet Providers

OK - Janet and I are looking at our upcoming retirement and move over to E. Tenn. We are trying to decide about internet/TV/phone service, and wondering about using Verizon's MiFi in lieu of a "dedicated" internet service. Cost is a concern, and it would be nice to be able to take the internet with us.

Pros? Cons?

Thanks,
Mickey

I've heard of it Mickey, but don't know anyone who uses it. I do know you have to watch your data usage, as that can get out of hand if you use the service a lot. PJ

Google it Mickey get the Verizone official mifi site they have a chat line to ans all your questions

I suggested this because it varies by State and city.

Also the chat line is not a forum but verizone specialists to ans your questions.

Thanks - been on the various forum sites, but there is a lot of "opinion" out there. Just looking for some folks here who've had some experience.

Mickey - take a look at https://www.dslreports.com/

Homepage shows Verizon Wireless Fi-OS rated highly. Click the links for further details. Also: https://www.dslreports.com/forums/54

Sorry, but I don't have a clue what "mi-fi" is.

It's a wireless router that acts as a mobile wi-fi hot spot... not terribly fast (250 mg and 5 gb)...sensitive to the number of devices that access it... expensive and restrictive data plans... probably OK if you have no other choices and keep close tabs on your usage.

Thanks. Never knew that. Dumb me - I thought Mickey was asking about internet service - not hardware!

Thanks, guys. We've acquired one and will try it out for a while. The big plus is being able to use it both here and in Townsend. When we move over there, we'll have to see what the cost of internet is locally and figure out the most useable option.

Too many choices!!

One thing to keep in mind with restrivtive data plans is that so many things are now streamed in HD and other data intense formats, meaning that if you intend to occasionally stream a tv show or movie, skype with the family or such, the limit can be reached almost immediately. So be sure to take your needs for what you'll want to do into account.

Thanks, Mike. This will be used primarily (and pretty much exclusively) for email, forum stuff, and the occasional YouTube visit.
